What to drink in New York City’s unseasonable heat wave? On my first night there last week, not wine, but a cocktail.
At Benoit NYC, an Alain Ducasse bistro in Midtown, the perfect antidote appeared in the form of the Cherry Tastic, a light and refreshing drink made with Pimms, cherry syrup, lemon juice and Alain Ducasse sparkling sake. It had a delicate floral effervescence, like sipping sparkling cherry blossoms. A small consolation for missing cherry blossom season in Japan. I asked to taste the sparkling sake on its own, but alas, it is not served separately.
Dinner followed with halibut served over a bed of peas and fava beans. Truly a taste of springtime in New York.
