White Wine from Argentina

Argentina is well-known for its Malbec but its white wine, Torrontes, is fantastic and perfect for any season. I tried the 2023 Colomé from the Calchaquí Valley in Salta. The vineyards are at high altitude (2300 meters which is about 7,500 feet). Colomé has been producing wine since 1831, making it the oldest continually producing winery in Argentina.

The wine has a pale lemon color and has lively floral aromas of rose, jasmine, lychee, lemon zest, maybe some grapefruit. It has a medium plus flavor intensity with a long finish.

I paired the Torrontes with a Thai Green Chicken Curry with Asparagus, a Williams Sonoma recipe. The Torrontes is wonderful on its own. Paired with this Thai Green Chicken Curry, it brought out the chicken and vegetable flavors, the acidity cutting through the rich coconut milk. The floral notes were accent notes to the curry.

I found Colomé at Whole Foods!
