On Tuesday, I shared a story about a Pinot Noir that greeted me right away, a glass full of charm from the first sip.
Today’s wine, Lombardi Wine’s Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast, was not so forward. I liked it on Day 1 but it wasn’t until it had a day to breathe (in the bottle with the cork) that it finally showed me who it really was. And I fell in love.
It had more of a red fruit aroma and flavor – think raspberry, red cherry, a touch of cranberry, then lavender, and later some cedar. The Sonoma Coast pinot was the embodiment of elegance and sophistication but make no mistake, it wasn’t a pushover. It had strength and beautiful qualities that didn’t show itself until the second day.
And this is the magic of wine. Wine has a character, a soul, that expresses itself in its own unique way.
(The coq qu vin tasted better a day later also.)
