A bottle with a long history: Carpene Malvolti 1868 Prosecco Superiore
Summary
Wine: NV Prosecco
Region: Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Veneto
Grape: 100% Glera
Style: Italian sparkling wine, Extra Dry
Alcohol: 11%
Producer: Carpene Malvoti
Tasting
Pale yellow sparkling wine with bright, crisp pear and light lemon flavors topped with almond and jasmine aromas. Rounded mouthfeel and ever so slightly sweet.
How It’s Made
Prosecco is produced by the tank method with higher levels of residual sugar than in Champagne and Cava. The residual sugar comes from interrupting fermentation by chilling and filtering.
Pairing
Prosecco is a versatile wine that can be served as an aperitif or with a meal. I had it with Classic Chicken Soup and it gave an uplifting pizazz. The Classic Chicken Soup (recipe under Food) is an excellent autumn and winter simple soup that keeps well as we all get busy for the holidays. It is sold in a 200 ml bottle. Perfect little accompaniment during the week.
Why It’s Important
Founded in 1868 by scientist Antonio Carpene, Carpene-Malvolti was the first winery to produce Prosecco. The grapes come from the steep hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
